This auction is for an antique vintage hickory shaft right handed 34″ blade style putter. Smooth face. Marked Robert T. Jones, Jr Calamity Jane along with Spalding Kro Flite and the Spalding crow cleek mark on the back. This is the early one from the 1930′s and not a later re-make. The head is good condition with most of the chrome intact. It does have the expected bag dings but does not have the salt and pepper pitting you often have on the chrome. Some sellers would call this club excellent condition but then again everything they sell they call very good to excellent condition even if the club has bad stampings and pitting. Not sure where they get their grading system from but perhaps that is why they don’t get Ebay’s Top Rating (too many complaints about an item not as described and Ebay removes that designation no matter what your feedback rating). Some sellers also “fix” these putters to make them pretty again. They use dremel tools, flat files, differing grades of sand paper and take them down to the bare metal. All this does is make them pretty for a while and totally destroys their collectible value. The shaft is the apparently original unmarked hickory. The shaft is straight, is crack free and tight at the head. The shaft does have three rows of whipping (replaced) like the original putter Bobby Jones putted with. The grip is an old long leather wrap that is whipped top and bottom and is in good vintage condition but does show some wear at the butt end. This putter has a flat front shaft under the grip area. The grip area is usually round so I assume this is not original. In any event, it was professionally done a long time and feels great if you want to putt with it. Recently I have been experiencing problems with breakage and loss during shipment so my shipping cost includes insurance. The USPS just raised their rates substantially on 1/22/12 and Ebay/Paypal get almost 15% of what I charge for shipping so please keep this in mind when considering my shipping charges. Shipping in the US is $15 for this item. This item shipped either Priority Mail or UPS ground-my choice. I do combine items for shipping for $2 to $3 per additional club depending on location and value. Shipping to foreign countries (CANADA, GREAT BRITAIN, AUSTRALIA AND SWEDEN) will be higher ($28 to Canada, $44 to the UK, $40 to Australia, $41 to Sweden) and be based on a three pound box via Priority Mail (you can go to USPS.com to compute the approximate cost to your location).
