Recently, playing with hickories has grown exponentially all over the world. I see a number of Ebay sellers stating their club is “playable” then I look at their pictures and description. Just because a club has a head and hickory shaft does not make it a player. These sellers are either ignorant or outright dishonest. They don’t bother to give you the length or any idea if the club has any weight. I see them saying their clubs marked L (for ladies), Ladies or with a W (for women’s)are players and Ladies clubs are almost always too short and too light to make decent players. Be careful and ask questions to avoid being disappointed. If you are new to playing hickory golf or want additional tips concerning acquiring playable hickory clubs you should visit The Society of Hickory Golfers web site. Under Resources you will find a section entitled How to Build a Hickory Playset. It contains a number of valuable tips.
This item is a right handed 35” (measured along the axis of the shaft) hickory shafted putter. A brass or bronze headed center shafted flanged back blade style putter. Marked simply Spalding Chicopee on the sole. The head is clean with a nice patina and the soft metal does have the expected bag marks (will not impact playability). Please look at the pictures for a better idea of condition. Smooth face. The hickory shaft is unmarked, is original, and starts off oval in shape near the hosel and then becomes round. The shaft has a very minor bend, is crack free and it is tight at the hosel. The grip the original perforated long leather wrap with intact grip collar and butt cap and it is serviceable. A nice D 7 swingweight for play. Approved for play by The Society of Hickory Golfers. Recently I have been experiencing problems with breakage and loss during shipment so my shipping cost includes insurance. Shipping in the US is $13 for this item. This item shipped either Priority Mail or UPS ground-my choice. I do combine items for shipping for $2 to $3 per additional club depending on location and value. Shipping to foreign countries (CANADA, GREAT BRITAIN, AUSTRALIA AND SWEDEN) will be higher ($26 to Canada, $36 to the UK, $38 to Australia) and be based on a three pound box via Priority Mail (you can go to USPS.com to compute the approximate cost to your location).
